We are Your Future

My idea is to help kids who have felt the same way I have and still have not received the hard work they need in order to be successful. I asked some gifted students in my class their opinions.

I first asked, “How do feel without challenge?” He said, “We have been doing the things in fourth grade since second grade just with more numbers or more words. I feel like we are in the same grade over and over again.” - Zach

Then I asked, “How do you feel with challenge?” She said, “Amazing, I feel happy I might discover new areas of math, reading, or even science! Even if I don’t, the learning is an unforgettable feeling.” - Tanvi

I need you to know just how important this is. We can’t let us sit in class and be bored.  Our parents send us to school to learn, we don’t come to school to sit and think about a game we were playing at home. Let us learn. Let us excel. If teachers won’t let us advance, then I guess we will all have to work together to make it happen. I want all students to be challenged. One day we are going to be adults and we are going to have to be in charge. If we’re not challenged, we aren’t going to be successful. If you want us to do great things with the World we need to be challenged now. We need challenge or our minds won’t grow. With challenge we will be successful. WE CAN do incredible things. With advanced work you will be surprised how far we will go.

I have always wanted to be a teacher, but people say at this age, I am too young, which I am. If I was a teacher kids would learn something important they have never learned before.  If I was a teacher I would challenge my students by giving them the work that makes them think deeper. I am being taught by a teacher who is really challenging me, so I can’t be a teacher right now.  Since I can’t be a teacher now I think it is up to teachers to challenge all students.

However, there are certain tasks I can do now, but we can’t just do these tasks. We all need certain items or work, like this project (I have been writing, revising, and even typing) to help our minds get ready for those tasks that we can do right now such as programing robots, writing, and illustrating books. Kids like me need enrichment work.

The real questions are:  Teachers, how will you choose to challenge your students? Students, how will you choose to self advocate and be challenged by your teacher?
